BTO Home Renovation Contractor Singapore

There are certain important steps that need to be observed in BTO home renovation in Singapore. These steps need to be followed accordingly to ensure a smoother flow in the renovation works.

Firstly, it is advisable to arrange for the SP Services to be turned-on immediately upon collection of the keys. Home owners can approach the SP Group Customer Service Centre located at 480 Lorong 6 Toa Payoh #02-08 HDB Hub Singapore 310480.

Secondly, it would be wise to approach a professional company to do the defects check. Some experienced BTO renovation contractors or interior designers also provide this defects check service. This is to ensure that the unit is free from defects left over from the building contractors when the interior renovation work commences.

As there are a few possible options/selections that were made during the application stage of the BTO flat, the following items may or may not come with the unit upon collection of keys:

1) Floor tiles for Living, Dining & 3 Bedrooms
2) Doors for 3 Bedrooms & 2 Bathrooms
3) Wash basin for 2 Bathrooms
4) Wall at Kitchen

It would be good if you have the correct information ready before meeting your BTO renovation contractor as this will enable them to give you a more accurate quotation. Also remember to make sure that the renovation or interior design company you have selected is registered in the HDB Directory of Renovation Contractors (DRC).

Once you have agreed to accept the quotation and duly signed with the renovation contractor or interior designer, do make sure that an application for a permit to carry out the renovation works had been submitted to the HDB branch office. Usually the home owner should receive a confirmation within the day that an application for a renovation permit had been submitted by the renovation company.

The renovation company should also paste the notice of renovation on a wall next to the main entrance before commencement of any works on site. It is also important to take note for all BTO flats, the approved renovation works must be completed within 3 months from the date of the permit. General renovation works can only be carried out from 9am to 6pm on weekdays & Saturday. Any works are strictly not allowed to be carried out during Sundays & Public Holidays. Noisy works can only be carried out from 9am to 5pm on weekdays. Noisy works are strictly not allowed on Saturdays, Sundays, Public Holidays & eve of major Public Holidays.

There are also some important issues that home owners should take note as follows:

1) There is a 3 year period which all tiles in the Kitchen & 2 Bathrooms are not allowed to be replaced.
However, overlaying of tiles is allowed using the approved methods.
2) Concealing of wiring for additional electrical points is not allowed.
3) Concealing of water/air conditioning pipes are not allowed. (176)
